Lapis Lazuli

Lapis Lazuli is one of the oldest treasured stones in human history, prized for its deep celestial blue scattered with golden flecks that look like stars in a night sky. It isn't a single mineral but a rock made mainly of lazurite, which gives the intense blue, along with white calcite and sparkling pyrite. The finest material has been mined in the mountains of Badakhshan, Afghanistan, for over 6,000 years, and other sources include Chile, Russia, and Pakistan.

Its history is remarkable. Ancient Egyptians carved it into scarabs and amulets, and it adorned Tutankhamun's funeral mask. Ground into powder, it became ultramarine, the most expensive pigment of Renaissance painting, reserved for the robes of the Virgin Mary. Across cultures it has long been called a "stone of royalty" and a symbol of wisdom and truth.

In crystal tradition, Lapis Lazuli is associated with the Throat and Third Eye chakras. It is traditionally believed to support clear communication, honest self-expression, intuition, and inner wisdom, which makes it a popular stone for writers, teachers, speakers, and students. Many also keep it as a calming stone for reflection and meditation. Its zodiac associations are commonly Sagittarius, Libra, and Taurus.
